The origins of the Fête du Citron® (Lemon Festival)

Let's go back in time to 1875, when winterers sought to escape the harsh winters in the mild climate of the French Riviera. Menton's hoteliers, keen to brighten up the town, proposed a parade to the municipality, which won over Menton residents and wealthy visitors alike. Although Menton was Europe's lemon capital in the 19th century, it wasn't until 1929 that the lemon joined the carnival. Since then, the Fête du Citron® has become an unmissable celebration.
