	Old Town

	Menton's Ports
	The Old Port of Menton The Old Port of Menton, (municipal port) is located at the foot of the old town and dominated by the Saint-Michel Basilica. The old port goes from 460 moorings in winter to 590 in summer. It is lined by many restaurants offering menus of fish freshly caught by the Menton fishermen and next to the large private and public beaches. 	Bastion Museum Jean Cocteau
	In 1955 Jean Cocteau on Holiday in Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat with a friend, discovered Menton, which immediately became a true "blow of heart." In 1956, Jean Cocteau was made an honorary citizen of the city after redecorated the City Hall wedding room requested by the Mayor at the time, Francis Palmero. And it was during one of his many walks in Menton, Jean Cocteau found the Bastion, an abandoned fort dating from the seventeenth century on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. On the proposal of Mayor, Jean Cocteau transformed the monument into a museum and this is how the first museum Jean Cocteau in Menton opened in 1966. Bastion today still houses some of the Mediterranean works of the poet from the period 1950-1693. Jean Cocteau Museum is located 900 meters from the Quality Hotel Menton Méditerranée and open to visit every day except Tuesdays and holidays from 10am to 12pm and 14pm to 18pm. 	Jean Cocteau Severin Wunderman Collection Museum
	A new Jean Cocteau Museum opened in November 2011 in Menton with the exceptional donation of Severin Wunderman, collector of Belgian origin. Located by the sea, a few steps from the museum's Bastion on the platform Monléon, the new museum Jean Cocteau became the world's largest public resource of the work of Jean Cocteau. In 2005, the love story between Jean Cocteau and Menton continues thanks to the donation of Severin Wunderman who owned more than 1525 works of the poet. The town of Menton is then naturally engaged with the support of Ministry of Culture and Communication to create a public museum. The Museum Jean Cocteau Severin Wunderman collection presents the poet's work from 1910 to 1950. Open daily from 10:00 to 18:00 except Tuesdays and January 1st, May 1st, November 1st and December 25th. Every Friday night in July and August until 22:00.

	Musée des Beaux Arts (Fine Arts Museum)
	The former Princes Palace of Monaco today houses the Musée des Beaux Arts de Menton. 	Saint Michel Basilica
	Just 5 minutes walk away, the Saint Michel Basilica of Menton is one of the jewels of Baroque art. Its square made of pebbles represents the Grimaldi Coat of Arms (Princes of Monaco). Saint-Michel Archange was proclaimed a basilica in March 1999, by decree of the Pope John Paul II. This title, granted in perpetuity, is in recompense for the dynamism of the liturgical and pastoral life of the Menton church. Every year the square is home to the Menton Classical Music Festival in August. Our tip: The Saint Michel Basilica dominates the old town of Menton. Please note, the Basilica can only be reached by steps. 	Russian Church
	The Russian Orthodox church of Menton was built by the Danish architect Georg Tersling at the end of the 19th Century thanks to the Grand Duchess Anastasia, the aunt of Tsar Nicolas II. This building is a mix of Eastern and Western styles. The church interior is richly decorated and displays many Orthodox Icons produced by the Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg.
